ALL those eligible for a free NHS flu vaccination can now walk into a community pharmacy and ask for their flu jab, without an appointment.

The service, which began last Friday, is being promoted by local pharmacy groups as the flu season starts.

Ian Dean, chairman of Community Pharmacy North Yorkshire, said: “We are very pleased to offer this no-appointment-required free service.

"We actively promote the service to our patients and it’s great that we will be able to protect them from the effects of flu this year.

“The service helps protect people from health complications through the winter months.”

Last year, 18,797 in North Yorkshire used the service, and Community Pharmacies expect this number to rise to 25,000 this flu season.

Ryedale councillor Lindsay Burr said: “This is such a good and convenient service, no appointment and so quick. I would urge all those eligible to have their flu jab and protect themselves this winter.”

People eligible for the free jab include all adults aged 65 and over, and those aged 18 or over and in clinical risk groups, for example pregnant women and those with certain medical conditions including asthma and diabetes.
