THE head housekeeper at the Black Swan Hotel in Helmsley has been shortlisted for an AA Hospitality Award following 31 years of work at the hotel.
Alison Richardson started as a chambermaid and worked her way up until, after taking time off to have a family, she returned in 1997 as head housekeeper.
Jeremy Rata, from the hotel, said: “Alison is a proactive and thoughtful member of the team. She takes time to look after the people around her, donating unwanted lost property to charity shops and unwanted blankets and duvets to Ryedale Dog Rescue.
“She has a heart of gold, we’re very lucky to have her here, and I’m even more thrilled that her efforts have been recognised through this award.”
Alison said: “Just being named as a finalist for this award is a great honour in itself. I feel very proud to be even in the running, and I know my mum will be especially proud too.”
Her mother, Jean, worked at the Black Swan for 57 years, receiving an MBE for her service to the catering industry in 2001.
The AA Hospitality Award for Housekeeper of the Year recognises outstanding commitment and performance, identifying a housekeeper who goes above and beyond the call of duty.
The awards ceremony will be take place on September 24.
