FOR this week’s Way We Were we need your help.

The picture above has been causing a great deal of interest in the Rosedale and Pickering area.

It shows Rosedale FC during the 1927-28 season, in the then Beckett Football League and was taken in front of the Crown Hotel, which is now known as the Milburn Arms Hotel.

Colin Westwood, from Pickering, is researching the history of the Beckett Football League and would like your help with any of the missing names or any other information about the league. The players, which have been identified so far are, back row, second from the right, Tom Metcalfe, who is the grandad to Mavis Ridley (nee Richardson), who supplied the photo to the Gazette & Herald, and next to him is goalkeeper Col Dowson.

On the front row, left to right, are Sam Trigg (father of the Gazette & Herald correspondent for Rosedale Margaret Truran), Willy Pearson and Joss Stewart.

All the other names are unknown, any other information would be a huge help to Colin Westwood who is researching the history of the Beckett Football League, his address is 35 Westlands, Pickering, North Yorkshire, YO18 7HJ.

We’ve also added a few more sporting memories from our archive, including ones from Nawton, Pickering and Rosedale.
