A WOMAN is due to appear in court in York on Wednesday (September 5) charged with the murder of a pensioner.

North Yorkshire Police said officers and paramedics were called to a house in Gristhorpe, near Filey, at 7.40pm on Sunday, September 2.

A spokesman said 70-year-old Dianne Elaine Williamson was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 65-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of murder.

The spokesman said the 65-year-old was held in custody for questioning while officers investigated the circumstances of the death, and was charged on Tuesday with murder.

She is due to appear before York Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

Ms Williamson's family issued a statement through police, and said they were "heartbroken and finding it very hard to come to terms with what has happened".
