NORTH Ryedale Riding Club have enjoyed huge successes at the BRC NAF National Horse Trials Championships in Oxfordshire.

The club sent two teams and two individuals, who had all recently qualified in Thirsk.

The Junior 90cm team consisted of regular team mates and friends Tilly Marley, Hannah Marley, Erin Smith and Ruby Thompson.

All four had a strong first day, putting the team in first place going into the second day.

That second day was “an absolute scorcher”, according to the team. Strategies were put in place for horse welfare and cooling, leaving the girls to focus on the undulating course.

Tilly Marley won her section and was overall champion. Hannah Marley, who also won her section, was second overall, and won the “Closest to Optimum Time”.

Erin was fourth in her section and Ruby sixth. These results meant they won the championship title by a significant margin.

Also competing on a one day format were the Junior 80cm team. Charlotte Armitage came second, Ruby Thompson came fourth and Ellie Evans came seventh in their respective sections. Along with Emily Grayson, the team placed third overall.

Lizzie Ball competed as an individual in the Junior 100 class. Her performance saw her take third place in her section.

Chef D’Equipe Ann Sibsey said: “We are so proud of all the riders.

“Our sole senior Sara Musgrave on Maisie did a fabulous job on her young horse. The support all the riders gave to each other is second to none and to get these results is a bonus.

“They all conducted themselves so well and kept the welfare of the horses as their main priority.”

The club offered a “huge thank you” to the BRC team, volunteers and sponsors.
