THE bank holiday is over and that makes me think that the school holiday must also be coming to an end. I know the shops have been full of back to school since they broke up. But, there is still time to take in a film if you have missed out.

We nearly got in to see Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, but had a sudden family meet, which was nice.

The cinema is continuing to be challenging with stupid faults appearing which needed sorting - a carbon dioxide gas leak on a drinks machine and portable appliance testing is on the way to completion.

We will have time in the mornings to get more projects progressed again before opening up, which will be good. The next project for me is the completion of the 7.1 sound in screen three and more painting for Caroline and a few areas for me, as well.

Films we are showing from Friday, August 31 are:

The Children Act (12A) – Emma Thompson plays a judge who has to try a case where a minor is refusing medical treatment on religious grounds. An extremely moving story about the law, the judge and the case of a minor who has an illness and rights.

Searching (12A) – this is the the story of a missing girl called Margo. Her desperate father searches for clues on her laptop and discovers he didn’t know her very well. This film was the winner of the Sundance Film Festival. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (PG) – still gets a good audience with so many telling me they are on their second, third or even fifth visit to watch Mamma Mia!

Christopher Robin (PG) – a lovely film for all the family where only Pooh, Piglet, Tigger and Eeyore end up helping get back to the important things – his family.

The Meg (12A) – an underwater battle with Jason Statham’s character taking on a Megalodon – an extinct huge species of shark.

Luis and the Aliens (U) – animated family fun with aliens and Luis.

Stage shows

Jonas Kaufmann: Under the Stars is our next production on Thursday, August 30. Then we have Julie from the National Theatre. When I went to the conference they held they were very excited about this production, which has Vanessa Kirby playing the lead.

Vanessa Kirby played Princess Margaret in The Crown and is one of those actresses who morphs into the parts she plays.

We are surprised to have still got some really good seats available for this prestigious production on Thursday, September 6.

We have an exciting announcement - They Shall Not Grow Old, plus live Q&A with Peter Jackson, on Tuesday, October 16.

Peter Jackson has assembled a team which has put archive films of the First World War together, restored and coloured it with astounding results. It is in recognition of the 100th year since the War to End All Wars. Tickets are on sale now.
