THE Malton Milton Room’s autumn programme begins tomorrow (Thursday), when Chris Berry visits the Studio again for an evening of songs from his new album The Long Road, together with a selection of perennial favourites.

A new monthly acoustic music programme gets under way on Saturday, with ever-popular local troubadour David Swann, who will be dipping into his collection of story and comic songs about the people and places of North Yorkshire, as well as songs about love, lost and found.

Highlight of the month sees the Tobie Carpenter Organ trio, pictured, delivering an evening of first-class jazz on Saturday, September 15. After studying at Leeds College of Music and Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Tobie has gone on to perform sold-out shows at The Royal Albert Hall, Jazz Cafe & Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club (London), as well as international appearances in New York, Berlin and Los Angeles, both as a band leader and alongside a number of award-winning artists.

His debut album Dead Pan Party with the Tobie Carpenter Organ Trio topped the UK jazz chart receiving widespread critical acclaim.

Media coverage has included extensive radio appearances in both the UK and USA and television appearances with Channel 4 and Sky.

Tobie has been described as “a fantastic performer...one to watch” by Jazz FM and “evidence the UK Jazz scene is on fire” in a five-star review from the Evening Standard.

If it’s September then it must be Ryedale Blues Club’s first birthday. Under blues maestro Paul Winn, the club has quickly established itself as one of the best regional venues to experience live, quality Blues with some top bands clamouring to play.

Yorkshire’s four-piece “Crosscut Saw” will be on hand on Thursday, September 27 to help celebrate this auspicious occasion with their hoodoo roller-coaster of musical primeval power – and there will be free nibbles and cake.
