WHEN Irish Mythen performs live at Pocklington Arts Centre (PAC) on Thursday, September 13, it will be one of only a handful of UK 2018 dates for the Irish-born contemporary Canadian singer-songwriter.

Irish’s forthcoming performance at PAC will come just weeks after a main stage performance for the globetrotting troubadour at the Cambridge Folk Festival.

Her presence and charisma command attention, and regardless of where she takes to the stage, she delivers a sonic and emotional experience that transcends language and location.

It is an experience that, in recent years, has earned her spots performing alongside Rod Stewart, Gordon Lightfoot, and Lucinda Williams and billings on major festival stages around the world.

PAC director Janet Farmer said: “I have had the enormous pleasure and privilege of seeing Irish perform live last year at Manchester Town Hall for English Folk Expo and it really is just that, a privilege, as her dominant and dynamic vocal prowess is truly stunning.

“Irish is a phenomenal musician and I am delighted to be able to bring her timeless and transcendent sound to Pocklington.”

The ECMA 2015 Roots Album of the Year perfectly couples the two poles of her sonic sphere: a universally engaging and accessible brand on contemporary folk with a tinge of more traditional Celtic influence that stems from her proud heritage.

Irish draws her inspiration from all over.

“It’s the people I’ve met, the colour and shape of the land, the fact that you spend much of this life alone on the road,” she said.

“All these things have crept into my songs. I want them to feel like it was not just about the music, but an overall experience.”

“I love feeding off of the crowd and interacting with them. That’s why I rarely have set lists; I like to see and feel the audience and give them what they want.”

Irish has established herself as a staple at events such as the Mariposa Folk Festival and Folk Alliance International Conference.

She has closed out the Philadelphia Folk Festival, performing after the iconic Lyle Lovett, and has performed to a crowd of thousands at Australia’s Woodford Folk Festival, a performance which led to her being handpicked to open for Melissa Etheridge’s 2016 Australian run.

Irish Mythen will perform at PAC on Thursday, September 13, at 8pm. Tickets cost £10 and are available from the box office on 01759 301547 or online at pocklingtonartscentre.co.uk
