THREE men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a stabbing in Selby.

The incident happened outside the Square Bar at just after 2.30am today and two of the men were arrested in West Yorkshire after a police pursuit which ended with a crash, North Yorkshire Police said.

A 21-year-old man from Selby suffered chest injuries and a 20-year-old Selby man suffered wrist injuries in the incident.

"Both men were taken to Leeds General Infirmary for treatment for their injuries, which are not thought to be life threatening," said a spokesperson. "The 20-year-old man has since been released from hospital."

The spokesperson said two further men were taken to York Hospital with injuries, one of which required surgery.

"A 26-year old man was arrested locally on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a Class A drug," they said "He currently remains in police custody.

"A vehicle believed to have been involved with the incident was located at 3.40am by police, travelling along the A63 and continuing onto the A1.

"Following a short pursuit, where the vehicle failed to stop, it was involved in a collision with a unrelated vehicle in the Glasshoughton area of West Yorkshire. The driver of the unrelated vehicle received minor injuries.

"Two men in the vehicle were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and currently remain in the custody of West Yorkshire Police."

The Operational Support Unit (OSU) has now tweeted that officers attended the Selby area early this morning to reports of males being stabbed.

"The team split and some arrested a male in Selby on suspicion of attempted murder with the help of @NYPFirearmsUnit,"it tweeted. "Others carried out a search for further suspects in a vehicle.

"The vehicle was located and it made off towards West Yorkshire before crashing.

"We weren’t far behind and arrested the two occupants on suspicion of attempted murder. Long day but awesome result!Great team effort between response, firearms and OSU."
