MY sojourn to France took a little longer than expected with the kitchen (to be fitted) arriving three days later than expected and during that time Screen 3’s cooler stopped working and there was an issue with the receiver for Andre Rieu.

I don’t know how they knew I was away. We have ordered a new cooler for Screen 3 and turned up the extract in the interim, as well as providing fans to help cooling.

Thankfully the weather is cooler for now. We hope the new cooler will be installed by the weekend.

The one film I have made a beeline to watch is Mission Impossible: Fallout. I wasn’t sure I enjoyed the last of the Mission Impossible films but this one is much more like an episode (or four – so much going on) and it is all action throughout.

I really liked the opening sequence and it kept us guessing along with the characters.

From then on the story develops and opens including the classic: “This message will self-destruct in...”

I didn’t enjoy the last two of the Mission Impossible films, but this whole film has the feel of Mission Impossible of old with a story with criss-cross double crosses, with some plot holes in the car chases but you can forgive them and even the comic parts had me laughing.

Tom Cruise was the potential to be a weakness, as in the last one, in particular I thought, but he carried the part well. I had hopes for the success of Mission Impossible: Fallout and wasn’t disappointed – kept me

throughout.

Films we are showing from Friday, August 3, are:

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again (PG and again a very pleasing number one in the top 10) – fun and laughs as well as Abba songs throughout.

The Incredibles 2 (PG and number three in the top 10) – great fun for all the family and I laughed in the right places, particularly the father trying to get baby to sleep, again.

Mission Impossible: Fallout (12A and number two in the top 10) – unexpectedly good film compared with the last ones – so much better and excitement throughout.

Hotel Transylvania 3 (PG and number four in the top 10) – as I overheard in one place “ooh that’s gross!” Well it is about ghouls and ghosts and their antics. Very funny for all the family.

Ant Man And The Wasp (12A) – opens on Thursday after publication again so more on this next week – making another beeline to watch this one.

Coming soon

The Equalizer 2 is one we are not sure of – in the (American) style of Edward Woodward’s character driven story. Denzel plays the Equaliser again in this violent hard hitting equaliser story with good guy against the bad. We will follow requests on this film – due out on August 17.

Stage shows

Our next presentation is Vanessa from Glyndebourne on August 14 and there are some really good seats available.
