SUNDERLAND boss Jack Ross has confirmed they remain in pursuit of Bantams striker Charlie Wyke.

Claims last weekend that a deal for the targetman was virtually done appear wide of the mark.

But with just over a week before the August 9 transfer deadline, the Black Cats have not given up the hunt for the 25-year-old.

Speaking about Wyke, Ross told north-east based newspaper The Chronicle: "That's one we are continuing to pursue.

"We want to get him, I think that's well documented, and the club has been very patient in its pursuit although that will have to come to an end one way or another soon - hopefully in our favour."

City sources insisted at the weekend there had been no developments regarding the player, who has one season left on his current contract, and there has since been no indication from them that the situation has changed.

Bolton are understood to still be interested in Wyke, with boss Phil Parkinson still keen to spend money on an additional striker after Wanderers snapped up Charlton's Josh Magennis for a reported £200,000 fee.

They have also been linked with Ipswich's Joe Garner.
