THE Fairfax Arms in Gilling East has been voted Yorkshire’s third favourite pub in a public poll.
The annual contest, run by Welcome to Yorkshire, received a record-breaking number of almost 20,000 votes this year.
The Fairfax Arms came in just behind the Millers Bar in Brighouse in second, and Yorkshire’s favourite pub, the Shibden Mill Inn, Halifax.
It is the second time the Shibden Mill Inn has been crowned the best in the county - it was the first pub to win the title when the competition began in 2011.
The prizes were presented on the Welcome to Yorkshire stand at the Great Yorkshire Show by Emmerdale actor Chris Chittell.
Sir Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “Competition was incredibly fierce this year with a record number of 800 pubs across the county in the running - and with more votes placed than ever before, it proves once again that Yorkshire pubs remain at the heart of each community and are greatly appreciated by all.”
