THE first-ever baby to attend a nursery in Hovingham has gone full circle, and returned to do work experience there more than a decade later.

Ryedale School pupil Katie Goodwin, 15, did her work experience last week at Wath Court Nursery, working alongside some of the same staff who looked after her when she attended as a child.

Katie said: “Mandy looked after me when I was in pre-school - she’s now the manager and Lesley looked after me when I was a baby. Sam, the owner, is still there too. It’s lovely as they all still remember me.

“It was really weird going back as I could remember it really well, particularly playing outside. It brought back some really happy memories.”

She originally went when the nursery opened in February 2003. She was four months old.

After nursery Katie went on to Terrington Primary School and now goes to Ryedale. All students in Year 10 at Ryedale School have to do a week’s work experience.

Katie said: “ I applied to Wath Court Nursery as I’m considering a career working with young children, possibly as a nursery assistant or maybe teaching.

“It’s been great doing my work experience there. The staff have been so lovely and I’ve loved being with the children. I particularly enjoyed looking after the toddlers.”

Wath Court Nursery, which delivers early years provision, was rated Outstanding by Ofsted at its last inspection in May 2013, according to the Ofsted website.

Katie’s mum Rosemary, who works at Banks Music Publications in Hovingham, added: “I can’t quite believe it’s 15 years since Katie first went to Wath Court Nursery. It was a special time. Katie made some enduring friendships and the mums have kept in touch too. There are four of us who regularly meet up for a meal and catch up.”
