THE official opening of Ryedale School’s new extension took place this week.

New facilities include nine classrooms, the refurbishment of science and art rooms and two additional tennis courts.

David Dangerfield, chairman of school governors, and Gareth Jenkins, the chairman of the Friends of Ryedale School, thanked everyone that had helped with the scheme.

In particular, they thanked those individuals and organisations that have provided funding to support the new facilities, including North Yorkshire County Council, The Wolfson Foundation, Garfield Weston Foundation, parents, staff and the Friends of Ryedale School.

Harry McMurray, head boy, and Georgia Morgan, head girl, cut the ribbon and guests were escorted on a tour by the school prefects of the new building.

Executive head teacher Mark McCandless said: “We are absolutely delighted with the new extension, refurbishment of classrooms and additional tennis courts.

“It has been really exciting to see the build through the different phases to completion.

“Students and staff have been really patient through the construction phase, but are now benefitting from and enjoying the fantastic new facilities.

“These developments will further enhance the learning experience for staff and students at Ryedale School.”

The additional capacity created by the new extension will enable the school to provide educational facilities for 150

students in Years 7 to 10 from September.
