RABBITS may not usually be welcome in beautifully-maintained gardens at Castle Howard, but this weekend they will be rolling out the red carpet for family favourite Peter Rabbit as he brings his friends to take up residence.

A series of visits, trails and performances celebrating the much-loved children’s author Beatrix Potter and her adorable furry friends will take place in the house and gardens over the Bank Holiday weekend and half-term week (May 26 to June 3).

Peter Rabbit himself will be in the gardens on Sunday and Monday. There will also be live and interactive performances of the Tales of Beatrix Potter in an unforgettable al fresco performance, three times a day (11am, 2pm and 5pm) all week, with each show lasting around an hour. The audience invited to bring their picnic blankets and folding chairs to make their own comfy viewing space.

“Beatrix Potter’s stories tell a timeless tale, which is why they appeal to children, parents and grandparents alike. We’re incredibly pleased to have secured a visit from Peter and his friends over the next week, as he is in huge demand following his hugely popular movie earlier this year,” comments head of marketing, Abbigail Ollive.

Throughout half-term week, visitors will also be able to explore the world of Beatrix Potter on trails that run through the grounds and house. Familiar miniature scenes from many different stories can be found around the gardens, before the Potter explorers head into the house to see models of the characters from a dozen of the best loved stories.

Admission prices to Castle Howard, including admission to the shows are: house, gardens and show - under fours £6, child £15.95, adult £24.95 (one adult with a valid house or gardens ticket is admitted to the show free with each child); gardens and show - under fours £6, child £13.95, adult £17.95; house and gardens (includes the trail) - under fours free, child £9.95, adult £18.95.
