THE decision on a plan for 79 new houses on Langton Road in Norton has been deferred.

The planning application for the homes was discussed at a meeting of Ryedale District Council (RDC) planning committee last week - and was set for approval - but the committee opted to push back their decision to a future meeting.

The reason given for the deferral was to resolve outstanding county council highways issues associated with the plans.

The application, for land adjacent to Auburn Cottages, was submitted by Keepmoat Homes.

The site received outline approval in 2016 following a four-day planning inquiry, after it was twice rejected by RDC’s planning committee.

Norton Town Council has objected to the application, citing flooding issues, future development, congestion, the effect on the infrastructure and lack of character.

However, the planning report said many of the issues raised in objection had already been considered when the outline planning permission was approved.

“These issues cannot be re-visited on this reserved matters application,” it said. “The design and appearance of the scheme has been significantly enhanced.”
