NORTH Ryedale Riding Club enjoyed huge successes at the British Riding Club’s Area 4 Winter Showjumping Qualifiers held last weekend at Bishop Burton.

The first successes of the weekend came on the Saturday. In the 110cm class, senior member Lois Teal was placed individual second to earn her place at the Equitheme BRC Intermediate Winter Championships, to be held near Luton from April 27 to 29.

The 90cm Junior team of Ruby Thompson, Erin Smith, Hannah Marley and Kitty Denny had to face a three-team jump-off but went on to win the class to earn their place at the same championships.

To close the day the Junior 80cm team of Amy Hayhurst, Erin Smith, Ruby Thompson and Tilly Marley won their class outright after the second round to gain their qualification to the KBIS BRC Novice Winter Championships near Grantham on April 14 and 15.

The Senior riders took up the baton on the Sunday. The Senior 80cm team of Amy Milburn, Sarah Earp, Vicki Seller and Ruth Marley again won their class outright to gain their slot at the Novice Championships.

By now the pressure was really on the club’s last team of the weekend. In a nail-biting conclusion to the whole weekend, the riders had to face a three-team jump-off for the last qualification place. They secured second place and earned their ticket to the Intermediate championships.

A club spokesman said: “Without exception, they all showed great sportsmanship and team spirit. To earn one qualification is an honour but the club’s results this weekend were quite outstanding, especially considering there were 270 competitors across the six classes.”
