A WILDLIFE conservationist is appealing for information after a barn owl died after it being caught in a fen trap.

The barn owl was found on Tuesday near Marishes and brought to Jean Thorpe who rescues and rehabilitates injured wildlife.

She said: "The bird was very ill with two broken legs and was dying. Whoever trapped it must have let the bird out to die a lingering death unable to hunt with badly infected wounded legs."

"I' am so angry - fen traps are legal in a tunnel or covered so birds can't land on them.

"The finder was so upset to find the bird barely alive. It is horrendous."

Anyone with further information should contact Wildlife Officer PC Jez Walmsley on 101 or Jean Thorpe on 01653 695124.
