A NORTON butchers has picked up an award at the 29th annual Great Yorkshire Pork Pie, Sausage & Products Competition in Harrogate.

W Fletcher & Sons Butchers picked up the supreme sausage champion’s crown with its champion speciality sausage, Rustic Applewood.

Sarah Scarth collected the Dalziel Trophy, along with her nine-week-old son Albie and her father Peter Hogg.

Mr Hogg said: “It’s a basic pork sausage, but we’ve added a hint of smoke and black pudding in with it, as well as some seasoning. It’s based on our own regular pork sausage with a bit of a variation.

“We tried it out and thought it came out with a nice rounded flavour. It’s one we’ve introduced quite recently in the shop, just a few weeks ago, but it’s selling well.”

W Fletcher’s supreme champion sausage also qualifies for the 2018 national Champion of Champions Sausage Competition.

The competition is organised by the Confederation of Yorkshire Butchers Councils (CYBC), is open to butchers, farm shops and bakers across the UK.
