A SHERRIFF HUTTON racehorse trainer has auctioned his legendary and distinctive green jacket to raise money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Mick Easterby, a veteran Ryedale trainer, has been wearing the “well-loved” green coat for more than half a century - it dates back to Boismoss’ 1967 victory in the Cesarewitch.

Mr Easterby said: “I’ve had a lot of stick over my green waistcoat of late so it’s time for a new one. There’s a bit of wear and tear and a lot of miles on the clock.

“The wonderful people at York Racecourse are the winners with a bid of £500, which will be donated to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

“The jacket is like me, it will be around forever.”

The jacket was handed over to York racecourse on Friday afternoon.

The annual June meeting also saw fundraising in the form of the MacMillan Charity Raceday.
