NEW road signs have been installed to welcome visitors to Malton.

The signs, at each of the town's main entrances, have been put up as part of a joint effort between Malton Town Council, Malton CIC and Malton and Norton Rotary Club.

Town mayor Councillor Paul Andrews said: "The old signs have needed replacing for some time, and it is great that the town council, the CIC and Rotary were able to jointly design and fund the new signs. The heraldic emblems emphasise Malton's long tradition as a country market town, and the wording marks out the town's pre-eminence as food capital of Yorkshire."

Tom Naylor Leyland, from Malton CIC, said: “I’m thrilled by the beautiful new town signs. Indeed, it’s a sign itself that the town is really pulling together to change things for the better. This was a joint effort with Malton Town Council and Malton and Norton Rotary and I know that further such joint projects will greatly help transform the town."

Rotary Club President Colin Jennings said: "Malton and Norton Rotary has long been involved in placing signs at the edge of town- the previous ones had been in place for 20 plus years. We are delighted to continue to play a role in welcoming people to the town and wishing them farewell as they leave."
