TAKEAWAY beer could soon be an option for visitors to a new Ryedale pub as its brewery embarks on a £7,000 crowdfunding campaign to buy the region’s first “Crowler”.

Earlier this year Brass Castle Brewery in Malton opened its Taphouse after the success of monthly “Tap Nights” encouraged the owners to invest in a permanent fixture to serve beers direct from the brewery.

Now the business has launched a crowdfunding campaign as it seeks £7,000 investment to launch a “Crowler Club” at the new bar through the purchase of a “Crowler” machine.

The machine, which Brass Castle bosses believe will be the first in Yorkshire and only the second in the UK, allows people to fill and seal cans of beer directly from the cask so they can be taken away and enjoyed later.

Phil Saltonstall, founder and owner of Brass Castle, said: “The full-time Taphouse is something we’ve always wanted to do, to properly engage the brewery in our local community.

“We’re now looking to start a ‘Crowler Club’, by equipping our Brewery Taphouse with a can-seaming ‘Crowler’ machine so that we can put takeaway beer into a versatile can.

“That will allow fresh beer to travel out of our Taphouse in the best possible packaging - locally and to locations across the UK.

“We want to make our more unique, seasonal or exclusive beers available to interested beer drinkers across the UK.

“If the beer is on our Taphouse bar, then we should be able to can it in a ‘Crowler’ and send it anywhere in the UK.”

The crowdfunding campaign has been launched on Crowdfunder.co.uk, and ends on May 4.

In return for their pledges, investors are being offered a number of incentives based on the amount they put forward.

For a £25 investment the return will be delivery of a three-pack of filled crowlers, where as £100 will get you a year of beer.

Brass Castle needs £6,000 for a Dixie Canner “Crowler” can-seaming machine to be bought and imported from the USA, and £1000 for a quantity of 32oz cans.

Mr Saltonstall said: “Everyone who pledges will instantly become a member of our Crowler Club.”
