PUPILS at Leavening Primary School have been awarded for their efforts in making their community more sustainable.

They have recently achieved bronze Eco-School status, which is part of an international award programme, providing a framework to help make sustainability an integral part of school life. Eco-Schools can help enhance the curriculum and get the whole school united behind something important.

Teacher Jenny Evely said: "The school council achieved this by taking a review of how the school currently works and finding ways to work towards a more sustainable school lifestyle.

"As we are a country school we will be growing our own fruit and vegetables, as well as composting some of our waste, encouraging more wildlife in our outdoor spaces and improving on the amount of recycling we do."
