WORKERS from a Ryedale firm are taking on a cycling challenge for Macmillan Cancer Support after being motivated by a colleague who is suffering from cancer.
Staff members from Russell (Kirkbymoorside Ltd), based in Old Malton, will be cycling the Way of the Roses from Morecambe to Bridlington over two days in June.
Scott McMillan, one of the team members, said: “The catalyst for the ride is staff affected by cancer, in particular one colleague, who is based at our Ripon branch, who has served the company for some 30 years and is currently battling myeloma.”
He said that the team, which includes staff from Selby, Boroughbridge, Northallerton and Malton, had started training with increasingly longer bike rides in preparation for the 170-mile coast to coast journey on June 13 and 14.
“We are hoping to raise a significant amount of money and hope people will get behind the challenge and support us,” he said.
