RYEDALE Citizens Advice Bureau could be in line for a £35,000 grant from the district council.
Councillor Caroline Goodrick said she believed the funding could be found from the Government’s New Homes Bonus money paid to the council for its house-building programme. She said: “The CAB provides a valuable service to many people.”
She successfully moved, with cross-party support, that the request for funding should be referred to the council’s policy and resources committee for further investigation.
Councillor John Clark said: “If the CAB wasn’t there, Ryedale council would have enormous problems. It has helped people with debts of £1.2m district-wide. It would be a tragedy if it closed.”
Councillor Luke Richardson said: “The CAB plays a key role.”
