A UKIP MEP caught up in the protests in Rotherham on Friday pressed ahead with an appearance in York over the weekend.
Jane Collins had been expecting Nigel Farage to cut the ribbon on her new office in the town on Friday, but the ceremony had to be cancelled when a crowd of protesters forced them to take refuge inside the building, with police telling Farage not to leave.
In York on Saturday for the launch of UKIP's electoral campaign in the city, Ms Collins said Friday had seen "rent-a-mob" tried to stop Nigel Farage speaking in Rotherham.
"If it had been 40 Rotherham residents I would have accepted it, but the people weren't from Rotherham and it really was an instigated attack on democracy.
"The MP Sarah Champion said she didn't want Nigel Farage in Rotherham - but she doesn't own Rotherham."
Mrs Collins appeared in York alongside Paul Abbott, who is standing in York Outer, and Ken Guest, who is standing in York Central, and some of the 10 confirmed candidates standing for the party in City of York Council wards come the election on May 7.
