MORE attractions have been announced for Helmsley’s Festive Fun Day this weekend.

Following the success of last year’s event, a host of acts and entertainers have now been added to the line-up, which takes place to coincide with Small Business Saturday this weekend.

New attractions joining the seasonal spectacular include the Suitcase Circus Show, a traditional Bavarian accordionist Steve Roxton, rock tunes with the Y-Street Band and the Swinging Santas band.

Ryedale District Council is providing event space and discounted parking, and in the Market Place a large area will be reserved for activities.

As well as new acts, there will be a dog fancy dress contest, the community choir and a visit from the Ryedale Lions’ Santa.

Helmsley will also be holding its third annual Christmas Tree Festival at All Saints Church from Saturday. This will run daily from 10am to 4pm until December 21, and will include 30 trees decorated along the theme of An Iconic Christmas – a creative take on much-loved favourites like the Queen’s Speech and Christmas dinner.

Emma Woods, treasurer at Helmsley in Business that has organised the event, said: “We are thrilled we have been able to add even more amazing acts to the plans for the day and build on the massive success of last year’s first Festive Fun Day.

“It’s not always easy to follow up something which was so well-received by local residents and visitors alike, but with these latest additions to the schedule we are sure this year will be much bigger and even better.”

Emma added that the event had been timed to coincide with national Small Business Saturday because the day stands for everything Helmsley is about.

“We have so many unique independent businesses here and we want to make sure everyone knows about them,” she said.

“We are very grateful to everyone who has lent their support to planning this year’s event, and we’re sure it will be a fantastic day out for the whole family.”

Janet Deacon, area director for Welcome to Yorkshire, said: “We are delighted to be supporting Helmsley in the promotion and development of their event.

“Events are an important factor in ensuring that we continue to attract visitors throughout the year, and this festive event will provide the perfect opportunity to showcase Helmsley and the wonderful local produce available.”
