HIGHWAY chiefs in Ryedale are making plans to keep the district’s roads safe this winter.
About 50,000 tonnes of salt have been stockpiled to treat the county’s roads and about £7m is earmarked to treat 2,750 miles of road, said Councillor Gareth Dadd, the county council’s executive member for highways.
He said: “Dealing with severe winter conditions remains one of our top priorities and we are well prepared.”
The council uses 130 farmers and other contractors equipped with snowploughs in addition to its fleet of 89 gritters and 12 snow-blowers.
