A MARKET town’s history has been preserved thanks to the latest technology.
The Helmsley Archive website began in 2010 and since then has received an average of more than 400 a day said Dr Paul Harris, who, with wife, Jen helped to collate photographs, documents and recollections from residents and arrange them on the website.
It began when the late John Collier, a well-known Helmsley resident, bequeathed his collection of photos to the town council.
“This provoked interest and prompted many people to contribute,” their own photographs said Dr Harris.
The archive is run by volunteers, supported by the town council and North York Moors National Park Authority and its next exhibition, Helmsley in Uniform, will be held at Helmsley Arts Centre, from July 8 to August 31.
