SELBY RUFC are aiming to rap out a Yorkshire Shield warning when they travel to Scarborough in Yorkshire One tomorrow.

The Silver Royd meeting between the North Yorkshire rivals is a forerunner to a Yorkshire Shield semi-final at the Swans’ Sandhill Lane ground on Saturday, February 22.

Selby coach Richard Nicholson admitted both sides will be keen to gain the upper hand ahead of the knockout tie.

“Both teams will want to get a good result and put pressure on the other team for the semi-final,” said Nicholson.

“It is always nice to go and play at Scarborough, but it will be tough – it always is. We are looking forward to it.”

The Swans were without a game last weekend, which gave them the chance to recover from two matches in four days – their 0-0 Yorkshire One draw followed by their Shield quarter-final win at York.

“We didn’t really have a break because of the York game,” said Nicholson.

“The lads did the same amount of work, but most people are okay apart from the usual niggles you get at this time of the season.”

Duncan Hardy is back in the squad after a trip to Australia.

Meanwhile, York travel to Consett for a second attempt at playing their Northern Divisions Intermediate Cup clash.

The Clifton Parkers travelled to the Durham/Northumberland One side last Saturday, but arrived to find the surface unplayable.

The rearranged cup game takes precedence over the scheduled Yorkshire One trip to Keighley and York coach Sean Bass said: “I feel for Keighley because they would have been expecting us there on Saturday.

“We have to get the cup game out of the way, but we thought it was dangerous last week. All our lads are amateurs and have to go to work on a Monday morning and we didn’t want to risk them getting injured. It would have been like running in soup.”

The first stage of the competition is a three-team round-robin, with York hosting Medicals on Saturday, February 22.

Medicals beat Consett 37-28 in the opening pool game.

In-form Yorkshire Four side York RI welcome Stocksbridge to New Lane seeking their sixth win in seven matches.

Rob Agen is out of contention after he was sent off in RI’s 19-13 win at Mosborough.
