THE Yorkshire Building Society in Malton is marking its first anniversary with festivities on a Dickensian theme.
Staff are inviting customers and members of the public to call in tomorrow (Thursday), from 10am, for refreshments and a celebration of the town’s past and present.
An inscribed 1844 edition of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol – now in possession of the charity Dickens Gift to Yorkshire after town-wide support to buy the book – will be on show in the branch during the day.
Selina Scott, who has recorded an audio verison of the book, will also be signing copies from noon to 1pm.
In addition, members of the Charles Dickens (Malton) Society will be dressed in Victorian finery and reading recitals of works by the author and staff will be wearing period costume to add to the festive atmosphere.
The branch is also holding a prize draw to win a three-course dinner for two with a bottle of Champagne in the James Martin Restaurant at the Talbot Hotel, in Malton.
