NORTON is holding its first Christmas tree festival to promote the town and raise funds for local charities.

Organised by St Peter’s Church, the festival will take place from Friday, November 29 to Sunday, December 1.

Reverend Rachel Hirst said local businesses, charities and groups were being invited to take part.

“We are asking them to provide a tree of any size or type and battery-operated lights if wanted,” she said. “The aim is to decorate the tree with something which represents their organisation or a Christmas theme.

The event will raise money for Ryedale Special Families, Next Steps and St Peter’s Church.

The church will be open on Friday, November 29, from 10am to 6pm, for the trees to be set up with a carol service and blessing of the trees, from 5.30pm to 6pm. On Saturday, November 30, the church will be open for public viewing, from 10am to 4pm. There is no entry charge but a request for donations.

A Worship 4 All Advent service will be held on December 1, at 10am, and the church will be open from 2pm to 5pm for the trees to be dismantled.
