YORKSHIRE One is providing a steep learning curve for Selby RUFC, according to coach Richard Nicholson.

The Swans started the season with a home win over North Ribblesdale, but they have since missed out 13-12 at Doncaster Phoenix and 28-27 at home to Wath-on-Dearne.

Nicholson, who takes his newly- promoted side to Keighley tomorrow, said: “It’s been very frustrating but these things happen.

“We are still learning about this league. Last season we were getting clear of teams and then pulling away, but that’s not going to be the case this season.

“We have got a young side and we need to learn to close games out.

“It’s nice that we are competing well because a couple of the sides we’ve played have been tipped as promotion favourites.”

On Keighley, Nicholson added: “They have come down after a tough season last year but it will be a full-on battle.

“We are expecting a tough game but, if we perform the way we know we can, we are capable of winning.”

Prolific try-scoring full-back Dan Porter returns to the squad, but centre Sam Weller is unavailable.

Yorkshire One leaders York are bidding for a fourth straight victory at North Ribblesdale – but coach Sean Bass is warning against complacency.

“We have got off to a flying start but we had a team meeting on Tuesday and talked about keeping our feet on the ground,” said Bass.

“We need to get something out of the game at Ribblesdale. It’s important not to lose, but it is a tough place to go.”

Second rower Dave Bates and winger Eddie Bradshaw are added to the squad that beat Dinnington 27-6 last weekend.

Pocklington will be hoping to maintain their 100 per cent start to the North One East campaign when they entertain Morpeth.

The visitors beat Pock twice last season but both games were cliffhangers that could have gone either way, with Morpeth snatching a 20-19 win at Percy Road with the last kick of the game, then sneaking home 18-16 in Northumberland.

Josh Britland, last weekend’s hat-trick hero against Northern, is unavailable so Jake Bishop takes over in midfield.

Bishop came through with flying colours as a replacement wing and try scorer at Northern after missing the first five games of the season with a hamstring strain.

Lock Dan Wilson is also unavailable so Archie Fothergill, son of former Malton scrum-half Steve, is in line to make a first start after some promising performances as a replacement.

Pock’s 19-man squad also includes mini-rugby coach Mark Briggs.

Malton & Norton are hoping to welcome back winger Henry Newitt and second rowers Sean Emms and Jamie Rounthwaite for tomorrow’s North One East trip to West Hartlepool.

York City Knights ace George Elliott could also be in the running for a debut, providing he overcomes a hamstring problem.

There is no game in Yorkshire Four for York RI.
