One of the event organisers, Catherine Eve, said: “It was a really super day with some great performances. It was marvellous the way the whole town turned out to support the run.

“The weather was perfect for runners and spectators alike, and we had a record number of people lining the streets to cheer us on.

“It felt like a carnival.”

Among those taking part were runners from the United States, Scotland and the south of England.

There was keen competition too in the children’s events with 42 youngsters taking part in the 4k Teens’ Race, for those aged between seven and 11. There was also a 4k run for adults.

About 130 children, aged between three to six, took part in the mile-long run, and a further 125 lined up for the Dash.

Safety barriers for the marathon were supplied by Morrisons Utility Services, while medical services were provided by UK Medics of Middlesbrough.

The event was sponsored by The Lion Inn at Blakey and Towlers Chemist, Kirkbymoorside.

Kirkbymoorside Tennis Club and Kirby in Bloom each had stalls selling food, while other groups in the town ran competitions.

The town’s brass band played throughout the afternoon to entertain the large crowds.
