A FAMOUS country house in Ryedale will be the setting for a rare exhibition of photographs for several weeks.

The exhibition, which began on June 16 at Nunnington Hall, will feature work by photographer Mary McCartney. She started her career in 1995 and nine years ago she took the first official photographs of the then prime minister Tony Blair and his wife, Cherie, with their newborn son, Leo.

She also has a number of pictures in the National Portrait Gallery Collection, along with a commission entitled Gay Icons.

Her first solo exhibition was under five years ago – Off Pointe, a Study of the Royal Ballet After House – featuring a series of black and white photographs.

Her portrait work was included in her most recent exhibition – British Style Observed – at the Natural History Museum last September.

The exhibition at Nunnington Hall – which runs until July 26 – will feature a number of works being shown for the first time.

Nunnington Hall’s property manager, Simon Lee, said: “I am really excited about this exhibition. Of all the exhibitions we have put on, this has to be on of my favourites. Mary is a fantastic photographer – the works in the show are stunning. I am really pleased that Mary’s photographs will be on show at the hall, and l think people are really going to enjoy this rare opportunity to see some of her work.”
