SCARBOROUGH musicians will take centre stage when a unique and innovative concert is held as part of the next Coastival event on the coast.

A Band Anyone Can Join will be one of the main attractions during Coastival 2016 in February.

It will see local musicians join Leeds-based rock band Hope and Social on stage at the Spa Grand Hall for a unique participation concert on February 14, from 2.30pm.

Coastival 2016 will return to the three-day format and have the theme Celebrating the Yorkshire Coast.

Organisers, Scarborough-based arts development agency Create, say A Band Anyone Can Join will present something new and special for Coastival fans.

Director Wendy Holroyd said: “Hope and Social want ukulele groups, choirs, brass bands, string groups, drummers, kazoo orchestras - anyone to come and join them as an ever-expanding band and play a monumental show to close the Coastival celebrations and celebrate the breadth of music on our coastline.

“Coastival has created some weird and exciting events before, but we are pretty sure there won’t have been anything to match this. It promises to be awesome and we look forward to seeing as many local musicians, from as many different musical styles as possible, up on stage on February 14.”

Last year Hope and Social performed with 1,200 new band members in 12 gigs across Yorkshire as part of their Tour of Infinite Possibility, a lead project of the Yorkshire Festival. They finished that with 200 of their new band members performing at the opening ceremony of the Tour de France at Leeds Arena in front of a live TV audience of 300 million people. Hope and Social specialise in involving their fans and audiences in the music they play and have a Pay What You Want philosophy for anyone downloading their music.

During the rest of Coastival, rock band Cast will headline with a concert at the Spa Grand Hall on the evening of Friday, February 12, supported by Two Skies.

Popular saxophonist Snake Davis will play at the Spa during the afternoon of Saturday, February 13, supported by Jazz Aesthetic.

Asian Dub Foundation will headline at the Spa on the evening of Saturday, February 13, supported by Project 12.
