THE owner of The Star Inn at Harome has launched a brasserie-style restaurant in his home town.

Andrew Pern, who also owns The Star Inn The City and Mr P’s Curious Tavern in York, has now opened The Star Inn The Harbour in Whitby, opposite the town’s railway station.

The interior was developed by Andrew, in conjunction with interior designer Rachel McLane Ltd of Malton, and features work by a number of local craftsmen and artists.

Andrew said he had always wanted to open a restaurant in the town where he grew up and close to which his parents still live.

He said: “When the opportunity arose to bid for the former tourist information centre building in Whitby, it was irresistible: a picture-perfect location and in the middle of all of the food suppliers I grew up with.

“In this case, the building size and layout lent itself to another brasserie-style restaurant and this also allows us to offer traditional battered fish and chips, of course, but additionally, dishes inspired by my original Harome restaurant and seasonal dishes of meat and game from local farms and estates.”
