NEW CCTV images have been released by police investigating the death of two jockeys in a fire in Norton.

Jamie Kyne, 18, and 19-year-old Jan Wilson died in the blaze in the early hours of September 5 at Buckrose Court.

Police are treating the fire as suspicious and said several people have come forward who were in the area at the time but there are still people they would like to speak to.

Superintendent Alan Carey, who is heading the investigation, said: “It could be that the potential witnesses believe they don’t have any significant information, but we still need them to come forward as they could help us piece together the full picture of the tragic events that morning.”

Investigating officers have now released new CCTV images of people they would like to speak to so they can be eliminated from their inquiries.

One picture shows a man dressed in dark clothing walking past the Derwent Arms at 1:50am on 5 September. A second image is of two men, one dressed in dark trousers and jacket with a lighter coloured top underneath, the other wearing light-coloured short-sleeved t-shirt and dark jeans, walking past the swimming pool in Church Street at a 1:48am. The men are then seen in a separate picture, talking together near the junction with Scarborough Road until about 2:10am.

Residents at Buckrose Court described how they had to jump from windows and climbed down drainpipes to escape the fire which quickly took hold of the building.

The victims were found in a flat on the second floor of the property. Police and fire specialist investigators, along with a forensic science team, spent several days at the property carrying out a full examination of the scene to establish the cause of the blaze and officers are still waiting for the results of the forensic examination. All the people featured on the CCTV, or anyone else with information about the fire, is asked to contact Malton CID on 0845 6060247.

A local man who was arrested in connection with the incident remains on police bail.
