ORGANISERS of the Great Yorkshire Show have confirmed it will go ahead as planned next month.

The announcement was made despite the Government delaying the relaxation of remaining coronavirus restrictions.

A spokesperson for the Yorkshire Agricultural Society said the annual event will take place as scheduled between Tuesday, July 13, and Friday, July 16, in Harrogate.

“The Great Yorkshire Show was planned under social distancing measures and we are continuing to work closely with North Yorkshire County Council Public Health to deliver a Covid-safe show,” the spokesperson said.

“We are discussing some of the details which may require additional measures to be put in place.

They added: "We have already adapted the show so that most of it is held outdoors this year and it’s been extended to run over four days for the first time in its history. We can’t wait to welcome you.”

It comes after the 2020 instalment of the popular agriculture event moved online in the face of Covid.

Normally 130,000 people would flock to the event.

Returning to the showground outside Harrogate, an extra day has been added this year.

The spokesperson said: “We are determined to make this a huge celebratory event, the Great Yorkshire Show will be one of the few major agricultural shows to take place in 2021.

Malton Show, Ryedale Show and Thornton-le-Dale Show are among the many Ryedale shows which were cancelled earlier this year.

As well as holding the show over four days, the Great Yorkshire is capping visitor numbers to 25,000 people a day.

There will be sanitiser points, track and trace check-in’s and a reduced Grandstand capacity at 30 per cent.

Tickets are £24.50 adults, and £11 for children aged five to 18, and must be booked in advance.

You can also buy a family ticket, which covers up to two adults and three children, for £64.00.

Discounts are also available for groups and school parties but tickets must be for a specific date for the show, rather than flexible, due to limits on numbers.

Anyone wishing to buy a ticket can visit the online portal or call 01423-541-222 between 9am and 5pm Monday to Friday.
