GRANTS are available to councils, landowners and community groups in a bid to increase native trees.

The East Riding of Yorkshire Community Tree Planting Fund is offering £5,000 grants to support projects, including the creation of native woodland areas and establishing new groups of trees.

To be eligible for the grant, all applications should include a clear benefit for wildlife, community involvement, only planting native species and a sufficient area.

Residents can choose between 36 species of trees, such as birch, oak, willow, alder or blackthorn.

Application closes on August 30. For more information, email heywoods@eastriding.gov.uk
