ORGANISERS of this year’s Malton Show have described it as the “perfect show day”.

Celebrating its 133rd anniversary, the show was once again held at Scampston Park, near Rillington, on Sunday.

Following rain during the week, the clouds broke to provide sunshine for the day.

Chairman Charlie Breese said Malton Show prided itself on being one of the leading agricultural shows of the season.

“The show continues to embrace farming and agriculture at its core, thriving with livestock, vintage tractors, fur and feather, horses, local crafts, a huge variety of trade stands, vintage vehicles, dog show and much more,” he said.

“We would like to thank our primary sponsor, BATA, for their continued support of the show.

“We also welcome our other regular sponsors, together with some news ones, who have agreed to support this great event.”

Mr Breese said he would also like to thank the team who helped to run the show.

“Malton Show is an annual event that remains almost entirely run by loyal volunteers who continually strive to make the show better year after year,” he said.

This year’s president Charles Brader said it had been a privilege to have been chosen for the role.

“I was stunned when I found out,” he said.

“There are a lot of people who should have been there before me so it was a real honour to be chosen.”

Mr Brader, whose chosen charity for the show was the Farming Community Network, has been involved with Malton Show since the late 1980s, initially in the horse section.

“Malton Show is a fantastic day - there is no better site in England for such an event,” he said.

“We have a high standard of livestock entries and the quality of trade stands is amazing.”

Mr Brader said the show continued to grow and develop.

“We have a fantastic team behind the show and new people coming in who are getting involved and doing a great job at taking the show forward,” he said.

Vice-chairman Vic Bruce said Malton Show provided something for everyone.

“We have such a good team behind us who are continuing to develop the show,” he said.

“This year we have more entries than ever, lots of attractions for all the family.”

Mayor of Malton Paul Emberley said it was a fantastic day.

“There seems to be more people than ever at this year’s show,” he said.

“Malton Show showcases everything that is good about Malton and the surrounding countryside. There is a really good atmosphere and it is another event to put Malton on the map.”

Secretary Anne Welham said the day had gone very well.

“The weather has been perfect and not to hot,” she said.

“Entries are up all round with a good standard of entries. All the show committee are working really hard to move the show forward in the right direction.”
