MALTON Show will take place about three weeks earlier than the traditional date next year.

The 2014 show has been set for Sunday, June 29 at Scampston Park, where the event has taken place since 1998. This year’s show was on Sunday, July 14.

The show committee has decided on the earlier date to make Malton the first show in the local show season.

Show committee chairman Michael Cleary said: “We want the Malton Show to provide a great day for families, local people and visitors, and of course we want top quality livestock to make our traditional agricultural classes some of the best in the country.

“We are moving the show forward into June to make Malton Show one of the earliest in North Yorkshire, and we can attract more top quality livestock entries.

“The Malton Show has been running since 1833 and we hope it will be going for at least as long again. We are very grateful to everyone who has supported us in 2013 and over the years – the volunteers, stewards, competitors and visitors – and we hope they’ll be able to come along in June and enjoy the show once more.”
