NORTH Ryedale Riding Club had another successful weekend at the recent British Riding Club’s (BRC) KBIS Winter Showjumping Novice Championships - with one team coming in first place.

Having qualified both its senior and junior Novice teams, the club was representing BRC’s A4 at the championships held at Arena UK, near Grantham.

The seniors travelled down to compete on the Saturday, and were faced with the top 25 teams from across the country.

The team of Vickie Seller on Marbles, Ruth Marley on Barnaboy Paddy, Amy Milburn on Cavenue Paddy, and Sarah Earp on Bella Cruise took fourth spot, only nudged out of third by one second.

The junior team of Amy Hayhurst on Nangenta Rouge, Erin Smith on Callista, Ruby Thompson on Glory Days and Tilly Marley on Rathbrennan Buachaill travelled down on the Saturday to support the senior team and get ready for their turn in the spotlight on the Sunday.

Having won the title last year, and seeing the seniors do so well, the pressure was on for them. They were facing 19 teams.

The first round went well to see them them positioned equal fourth after the first round.

With three of the four riders in the junior team on last year’s winning team they were feeling the pressure, and the group held on to the hope they could secure third or fourth if they rode well.

They came first, holding their nerve and securing a faultless finishing round score to win the title outright, without the need of the jump off.

Chef d’Equipe Ann Sibsey said: “The club is very proud of both teams.

“It’s a huge commitment from them to ride for their club and represent their area. A fantastic weekend for everyone taking part.”
