WOMEN already in business, or those who may be thinking about starting their own enterprise, are invited to a drop-in event on November 12, from 3.30pm to 7.30pm, at the Downe Arms, in Wykeham.

Organised by the Scarborough Network Group of the national Women in Rural Enterprise, the event will give people the chance to meet local business women, find out what businesses they have set up and how they achieved success as well as chat to and learn from women who are just starting up their enterprise.

A wide range of businesses will be represented from a florist to an artist, a driving school to a utility discount club and from complementary therapists to a training provider offering free training to small to medium enterprises. Two inspirational women will each give a short talk about their experience of setting up and running a successful business.

Jo Thompson runs Spectrum Cleaning Solutions an independent supplier of cleaning products and washroom services in Yorkshire and Teesside. Coming from three generations of entrepreneurs she lives by the motto “whatever you do in life try and be the best at it” and it is this entrepreneurial heritage that drives her to put endless amounts of time and energy into her business venture.

Melanie Moss established Wolds Cottage Kitchen after 16 years in the hectic hospitality industry. Disillusioned by the quantity of imported foods put on to menus, she decided to become an artisan food producer, harnessing her creativity and passion for food. Nearly 4 years on, Melanie has now won many prestigious awards for her preserves without turning her back on traditional methods and maintaining her artisan ethos.

Katrina Shamel, Network Leader says “We’re really excited about this event. It’s a great opportunity for us to promote what fantastic things Scarborough and Ryedale business women are achieving and for us to share our knowledge and skills with other women whether they be already in business or just need a bit of a confidence boost to start up their own venture”.

Inspiring Women in Business is a drop-in event so whether women have 15 minutes or an hour or two to spare, they can still come along and be inspired.
