AN online retailer has opened its first shop selling retro clothing in Malton.

Atom Retro, which before opening the shop in the towns Market Place was based purely online, stocks a range of retro, mod and heritage fashion brands for both men and women including Bern Sherman, Farah Vintage and Traffic People.

Shop manager Brian Poulton said that when looking to make the move from online to opening their first bricks and mortar shop, Malton immediately sprung to mind as the perfect location.

He said: "We decided to open the Malton shop as the town had received great publicity about the quality of its shopping.

"We looked at several locations for the shop and Malton appeared to be the best in terms of footfall and cost. "

The shop, which opened just over a week ago, has ten years of online retail experience behind it, and was founded in Scarborough in 2004 selling exclusive vintage wear online.

Director Alister Poulton said that the Atom Retro range is inspired by the Carnaby Street boutiques of the sixties. The store has a warehouse based in Scarborough, employing about 12 local people and has also developed its own brand Madcap England which is available to buy at the shop in Malton.
