STUDENTS from The Academy Hair and Beauty Training College have celebrated their successes at an annual awards evening.

Over 200 people attended the event at Norton College, including family, friends and employers for the presentation City & Guilds and specialist certificates.

Student of the Year was awarded to Kayleigh Spink from Ryton near Malton. Kayleigh has studied Level 2 and 3 Beauty Therapy, Level 2 Nails Services and Functional Skills at The Academy.

Imogen Barnes, from Norton, attended The Academy one day a week in Years 10 and 11 and was awarded two special prizes including the Natalia Wiley Memorial Trophy. Imogen started a traineeship over summer and is now working as an apprentice at Boom in Norton.

Many students achieved special awards for 100% Attendance including Lily Cossins, Sophie Nichol, Charlie Uttley, Kayleigh Spink, Abbie Dawson and Christine Wilson. Endeavour and Attainment Awards were also given to one student from each class.

Lindsay Burr owner of The Academy, said: "For our students hair and beauty is their passion, they have embraced every opportunity to gain additional qualifications including English and maths and many have apprenticeships or placements in local salons.

"Thank you to all the fantastic salon owners who have chosen The Academy as their training provider."

She added: "I would also like to thank all of our funding partners including Scarborough Sixth Form, North Yorkshire County Council, Lady Lumley's School, Ryedale School and Norton College for their continued support. I am extremely proud of everyone here including all The Academy staff who are a credit to this industry".
