Chris Welford

WELFORD Chris A memorial of Chriss life took place at Malton Cricket Club followed by a private service at Octon Crematorium on July 23rd. Chris passed away peacefully at York Hospital on July 10th 2020, he was 86 years old. Chris was born on December 10th 1933 at the family home, Spainel Farm, Weaverthorpe to parents Robert and Ethel Welford. He had an older brother, Aubrey. Chris and Aubrey had a special bond and they both spent their early years at Weaverthorpe school, after which they ran Spaniel Farm together. Aged 8 Chris contracted TB and was sent away to York Sanitarium for a year. Apart from the 2 years in the armed forces, which he loved, he lived the rest of his life in Weaverthorpe and later moved to Manor Farm where he would continue working throughout his life. Chris met Jean at a Matrons Ball and they were later married. They had two children Mark and Anne. Chris loved to play cricket, he played for Malton and Helperthorpe. Chris and Jean divorced in the mid 80s and he then met and married June in 1989. They built a loving home where Grandchildren and their friends loved to visit. In his later years both he and June spent many hours in the garden. Chis loved to take out friends and family for meals and could always be found on a Tuesday at Malton Market. He was also an avid reader. For the past few years he nursed and cared for June whose health had declined, he did this with patience, love and kindness. June passed away in October 2019. He will always be remembered as a humble man who would rather give then receive, a kind and generous Dad, Grandad, Uncle and friend, he will be greatly missed by all. RIP Dad.
