LOCAL MP Kevin Hollinrake has pushed for safety improvements on the A64 at Rillington.
Mr Hollinrake recently organised a site visit with Highways England, councillor Janet Sanderson and local residents, after which the agency said it would look into safety measures.
Local residents had three particular issues, including:
- concerns over the traffic lights by the Coach and Horses, where large vehicles sometimes get stuck resulting in a collision risk
- concerns about the effectiveness of speed signs coming into the village
- concerns over the safety of the pavements alongside the A64 and whether barriers should be in place to protect pedestrians
Mr Hollinrake said: “I hope to see progress to improve safety in the village as soon as possible and will continue to press for a bypass in the next stage of work to upgrade the A64 once the dual carriageway to Barton Hill is underway.”
Highways England said that there had been a speed survey done there in December which indicated there “was reasonable evidence that there is speeding in Rillington.”
They are to send Mr Hollinrake a report on what was happening, what the options are and when improvements will be carried out.
