A HORSE box was set on fire and another car sprayed with 'obscene' graffiti at the weekend.
Fire services were called to the incident, on Bleaberry Lane in Scrayingham, at 1.36pm on Saturday, January 20.
Crews from Malton and Huntington attended - they found an empty horse box on fire, with graffiti on the box.
They believe the cause to be deliberate.
The crews were able to extinguish the fire using a hose reel jet and breathing apparatus - a spokesperson said that an investigation into the cause is currently in progress.
North Yorkshire Police said that the incident involved the setting fire to a horsebox and obscene graffiti on another car nearby.
They said: "We are requesting the public’s assistance to help establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
"In particular, we are appealing for information about whether anyone witnessed the incident or passed the area and saw anyone acting suspiciously or have a dash cam that may have recorded anyone at the scene as they passed by."
They added: "If you saw anything suspicious nearby please call 101 quoting 12180011166."
