IN 1992, Simon Thackray photographed his shed door and founded Ryedale's renowned arts venue The Shed.
This improbable performance venue in a small village in North Yorkshire has since become renowned for presenting world-class music and poetry and for creating and staging the unique art events that Simon dreams up from time to time.
From the Yorkshire Pudding Boat Race and Mrs Boyes' Bingo featuring Mark Sanders to the Fish and Chip van tour and Lol Coxhill in a skip, the venue has played host to an array of events.
Along the way, Simon recorded events in a series of incidental' photographs which are being shown for the first time at an exhibition at The Roslyn Lyons Art Gallery, Music Research Centre, University of York, until June 27.
Dr Tony Myatt, director of the MRC, said: "In addition to Simon's photographs, we will display some of his sculptures - including the original prototype' Yorkshire Pudding boat. The exhibition is, in small part, a thank you to Simon for his amazing contribution to the arts in North Yorkshire."
